Malaga’s Charles scores against Bilbao

Malaga, who finished ninth in the Spanish First Division last year, have not had a great season so far, also did not finish reaching thirteenth place by the end of 2015, but at least appearing to be safe from the shark-infested waters of the relegation zone. Their poor goalscoring record (forward such as Roque Santa Cruz and Hachim have failed to come up with the goods) has been the main story of the season, mitigated somewhat by the pleasing form of Brazilian midfielder Charles (6 goals by the end of 2015).

In the first half of this season, Barcelona defeated Malaga narrowly by one goal to nil at the Camp Nou. Add to that the 0-0 draw in this fixture last year against the Catalan masters and the situation looks closer than the relative league positions might suggest. Also in Malaga’s favour was their 1-0 defeat of Atletico Madrid before Christmas, which has helped the team’s confidence. Luis Enrique’s FC Barcelona finished 2015 on a low note, by their standards, with draws against Valencia away and Deportivo at home.

Our Forecast For Malaga v Barcelona

Malaga, but maybe even more s will sense they have a chance to win this match, if the fast offensive play of the likes of Messi, Neymar, Suarez and Iniesta does not yield goals early on. This was the story of Malaga’s heartening defeat of Atletico Madrid in December. However we expect Malaga to succumb to the greater skill and speed of the Barcelona team, with Luis Enrique’s side running out narrow winners.
