Barcelona v Atletico Madrid match has always been a high-scoring and keenly-fought affair. It was Atletico Madrid who came out on top the last time these teams met in the UEFA Champions (in the semi finals three years ago). On that occasion it was Simeone’s team who came out on top n their way to the final in Lisbon. This time, Luis Enrique’s men will be keen to show it is not the case that Atletico know how to handle Barcelona. A sure-fire sell out at Camp Nou stadium, this is the game for lovers of Spanish football in its purest and most enjoyable form. A magical UEFA Champions quater final night. Barcelona v Atletico Madrid – UEFA Quarter Final
Both Liga meetings of these two teams this year produced 2-1 victories for Barcelona, but they were hard fought wins. Typically exciting affairs, epitomising the difference between the teams: Barcelona’s flair and Atletico’s terrier like attitude and motivation. Barcelona’s goal average this season is running approximately twice as high as Atletico’s. Not that that will be worrying Simoene as he lines up for the Camp Nou. In the Liga match in January, Atletico were unlucky not to do better.
Atletico have the knack of elevating at least one of their team to superstar status each year and this year it appears to be the turn of French international Griezmann who scored 12 goals for the colchoneros before Christmas (4 more than Barcelona’s injury-hit Messi, but les than Suarez on 18 and Neymar, with 16). Atletico’s Griezmann and Godin were both nominated for UEFA’s top 11 of 2015.
Under manager El Cholo Simeone Atletico have brought off great victories against all of Europe’s greatest teams, Barcelona included. Few will forget how Atletico rattled the big guys two years ago by ousting Barcelona from UEFA, lifting the Spanish Liga trophy, and very nearly spoiling Real Madrid’s 10th European Cup party in Lisbon. This season much will depend on how the teams start the New Year, the fitness of players, and the incorporation into the Barcelona side of former Atletico’s Arda Turan. That will get the fans excited.

Our Forecast for Barcelona v Atletico
In a match where Barcelona’s firepower (3.5 goals on average per match in the season till New Year) against Atletico’s (1.5 per match) much will depend on the ability of Atletico’s hardcore defensive back bone (and stars like Juanfran, Raul Garcia and Luis Felipe) or the support that the team can get to Griezmann and Torres from players like Koke. Simeone is capable of pulling off a result against his old playing-days rival, and comparatively less-experienced coach, Luis Enrique. It will be a fantastic duel, but we believe Barcelona will run out vistors and take a one or two goal advantage to the second leg in Madrid.
